Wharton Recreation Ground

The Wharton Recreation Ground is one of two recreation grounds in the Town Council’s ownership (the other is the Over Recreation Ground).

At present, the site consists of two junior size football pitches; a former hard surface tennis court, now used for basketball and general uses; and a number of pieces of play equipment.

In 2015, a range of outdoor gym and fitness equipment was installed and there is also a separate toddler’s play area.

In addition to the above, there is also a bowling green available for use and a thriving bowling club in place.

Bowling is open to the public from 1 pm to 5 pm seven days a week and 5.30 pm to dusk on Thursdays.

It is £1.50/person to use the green and rent bowls.

If you have never played and would like to learn how the game works, email lbarwell@winsford.gov.uk to express interest in an “Intro to bowls” session.

The main entrance to the Recreation Ground is via East Dudley Street which itself is accessed from the A5018 Wharton Road. There are three further pedestrian accesses – from Ledward Street; Greville Drive and from adjacent to the Barton Stadium (home of Winsford United Football Club, where a large public car park is available).
