Winsford's industrial heritage is based on the salt industry and its ancilliary needs. For a number of years Winsford and Northwich had a number thriving ship building yards which could build ships with a gross weight of about 1000 tons. The last ship launched was the Monach and local divers are trying to locate the hulk in Dublin Bay.
Many local people worked in the mines but a greater number were employed in processing and transporting the finished products.
During the 1960's the newly developed industrial provided a greater diversity of jobs and this broad base is the foundation of todays employment.
