At the Annual Meeting of Winsford Town Council on Monday 15th May 2017, Dene Ward Councillor Mike Kennedy was elected as Town Mayor for 2017/18.
He succeeds Councillor Steve Smith who served as Mayor for the past 12 months.
Councillor Kennedy’s wife Hillary will act as his Mayoress.
Councillor Gina Lewis was elected as Deputy Mayor, with Mr Denis Lewis acting as her consort.
During his year in office, the new Mayor will be raising funds for St Luke’s & Winsford Youth and Community Forum
In his opening statement, the new Mayor said:-
“I would like to start by congratulating Cllr Steve Smith on once again having a unique and entertaining year as Mayor, with the emphasis on entertaining!
I would like to welcome my chaplain for the year – the Reverend George Crowder and thank him for taking up the post. George was my Chaplain the last time I was Town Mayor and I very much look forward to working with him again.
My themes for the year will once again be young people (of all ages) and also promote business and job opportunities. As Chair of the Trustees of the Winsford Youth Forum I know that the Forum is providing more for the young people of Winsford and all involved should be congratulated on their efforts.
The last time I was Mayor I commissioned Bralin Recruitment to conduct a skills survey of Winsford business and the outcome was astounding. I will once again be promoting local businesses and new businesses.
My two Mayor’s charities will be the same as last time – St Luke’s Hospice and Winsford Youth Forum.
St Luke’s are close to my and other people’s hearts, not just for the care they give but also the many other services they offer. They have a nursing staff second to none.
Winsford Youth Forum – or the Winsford Youth & Community Forum – and need support to provide more services to young people of all ages. The diverse services on offer are now seen to be believed – our youth is our future.
Finally, the Mayoral hair and moustache colours for the year have been chosen!”
