When you drive past the ‘Welcome to Winsford’ signs at the main entrance routes into the town, you may have noticed the words ‘twinned with Deuil la Barre’. So where is Deuil la Barre and how can you get involved in town twinning?
Deuil la Barre has a population of just over 20,000 and is located just north of Paris, France. The twinning link with Winsford was established in 1993.
Much more recently, the town has developed an informal ‘friendship link’ with the German town of Neider Eschbach which is itself twinned with Deuil la Barre. Neider Eschbach is smaller than Deuil, with a population of around 12,000 and is about 20 miles from Frankfurt.
A community twinning group called the Winsford Twinning Association handles the twinning arrangements, including visits to and from both towns. Membership is open to anyone and the cost is just £5 a year for individuals and £10 for corporate membership.
